Kids Bathroom Quick Tips

By: Laura Evans

If you have children, you probably have a kids' bathroom. You know this room. A kids' bathroom is the bathroom where there is just as likely to be toothpaste smeared on the mirror and towels crumbled on the floor as there is to be, well, toothpaste smeared on the mirror and towels crumbled on the floor.

Safety First

As mind boggling as this kind of bathroom can be if you are into neatness, you can turn this bathroom into a mini-training ground for both fun and education. However, think of your children's safety first, particularly if you have toddlers.

Children are really into exploration. Therefore, you must keep things that shouldn't be explored out of their reach, such as medications and cleaning supplies. Install cabinet locks to keep cabinet doors shut. Don't forget to cover bathroom outlets, as water and electricity don't mix well, and to have a safety mat in your tub. And, of course, never leave a small child alone in the tub.

Bathroom Decoration

Why not have your kids' bathroom chock full of bright colors? Children love happy colors. Each child could have his or her own, special color in the bathroom, from towel to toothbrush.

Don't forget toys. Tub toys used as decorations can add a splash of color and fun to the bathroom. At least they won't be able to break the decorations.

Bathroom Cleanup Training

One advantage of having color coded towels is that you may-at least until your children are old enough to try to get each other into trouble-be able to figure out who is tossing what where.

Have an easy to reach clothes hamper and start training your kids to put their dirty towels-and hopefully their dirty clothes-into the hamper. Have towel hooks at their level so that they can start to hang up their towels after use.

And hold your breath. Someday they will be teenagers.
