If you're wondering where to find information online about gay and lesbian adoption, you'll have an embarrassment of riches when you search. Many websites offer legal advice, a collection of links, and places to read testimonials and ask questions.

Legal issues

There are many lawyers with websites who offer advice on legal matters regarding gay and lesbian adoption. Of course they're trying to create business opportunities, but that doesn't mean they can't offer good advice.

You may simply be interested in finding some answers regarding the rights of gays and lesbians to adopt. Here are some websites that will help you do just that.

Nolo.com is a legal information warehouse that specializes in translating the byzantine language of the law for lay people. They have a section dedicated to legal rights of same-sex parents.

Findlaw.com is another information-clearinghouse type site. It has a page devoted to gay and lesbian parental rights.

Lambda Legal is the oldest national organization that fights for the legal rights of gay and lesbian citizens. Their website contains an overview of state adoption laws as well as other information and discussion of legal matters regarding adoption.

Advocacy groups

Like Lambda Legal, there are many groups today fighting for the rights of LGBT (lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender) people. Many of them have a strong presence on the Internet.

The Human Rights Council is a prominent activist organization. Their Family Project is a resource for LBGT families, providing information and advice on everything from adoption to schooling.

The Family Equality Council focuses exclusively on parental matters in the LGBT community.

The National Center for Lesbian Rights is an organization focused on the legal issues in the LGBT community, as is GLAD, Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders. The latter site compiles news stories that address parenting and adoption legal issues.

News and information

There are several LGBT publications that have a web presence. The Advocate and Out magazines are two of the most well-known LGBT-oriented publications. The Advocate is the more news/politics oriented magazine in the group, and it has many news stories and features on adoption and adoption rights.

Gay Parent Magazine doesn't have much of a web presence, but you can download digital copies of their magazine for a $1.99. Their main focus is the tri-state area in the Northeastern United States.

General information

There are many sites that offer a gateway to information on LGBT adoption issues. Sites that focus on general adoption issues also have pages devoted to gay and lesbian adoption.

Adopting.org and adoptionservices.org are two of those.

Adopthelp.com has information and success stories about gay and lesbian adoptions.

The government-run child childwelfare.gov has information for professionals serving LGBT communities as well as families.

You can seek out any large website that focuses on gay and lesbian issues. Check to see if the site has a forum or BBS where people discuss personal issues in a small group. Those sites are bound to have people participating who have personal experience with adoption. You can become a member and ask questions.
