Back-to-School Clothes Shopping

By: Connie Earl Robertson

Summer is over, and it is time for your children to embark on another new school year. Now is the moment to get them ready. Besides buying school supplies, back-to-school clothes shopping is one of the main things you will have to do. Here are some ideas that will help save you money.

Check closets first

Before starting your shopping trip, look through your child's closet. Remove old clothes, and take stock of what can be used. Make a list of things you need to purchase.

Swap Clothes

Get together with family and friends and have a clothing swap. Make sure that everyone puts in clothes that are in good condition. This ends up not costing you anything, and your child will be delighted with her new school clothes.

Window shop

When you are in town, pick up some of the sales papers at the local stores. You can also window shop online because many stores offer extra savings for clothing purchased over the Internet. Compare prices, and choose the stores that have the best deals for your child's needs.

Discounts

Watch for discount coupons and store codes in the sale papers and online. Either cut them out or print them before you head for the store. This can help you save quite a bit.

Thrift stores and consignment shops

Don't think that you have to purchase your child's clothing brand new. Start early in the summer and look for things your child will need. Many times, you can find brand name clothing in excellent condition at less than half price at one of these stores.

Shop all year

Don't wait until it's time for school to start to do your back-to-school clothes shopping. Watch for bargains during the year, and purchase items in larger sizes. Store them in a special place until it's time for the new school year. Look over what you have, and purchase anything you lack.
