Advantages of Democracy

The word democracy comes from two Greek words: demos, which means "people" and kratia, which means "power." Democracy is the notion that brings a country to an environment that joins equal prospects and gains for the people. These prospects and gains encompass the economic, political and social spheres. This political course of action has numerous advantages.

Primary advantages and disadvantages

The primary advantage is that the common people are granted liberty and rights. A secondary advantage of democracy is that it allows common people to take an active role in the country's political actions. Despite these great advantages, democracy also comes with disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages of democracy is that the masses' power can become warped and turn into a mass autocracy. Another downside of the majority ruling in democracy is that it takes away barriers in the freedom of idea or liberty of outlook.

• Democracy offers elections on a regular basis at set time intervals. This ensures that governments that are not popular will be voted out of political office, avoiding a monopoly of a particular party. The administration that takes the new position must bring about more favorable policies in order to remain in office.
• Democracy gives the most popular candidates the occasion to be on the election ballot so that the common people have the option to vote for them.
• Democracy grants citizens the right to elect representatives of their own choosing.
• Democracy guarantees that the wealth of a country is distributed equally. This is feasible as the representatives of the people have to defend an appropriate share of development funds.
• Democracy gives the common people the chance to express their own opinions in the hope that their desires will be fulfilled.
• Democracy gives multiple political parties the opportunity to vie for power. This gives candidates and the electorate multiple candidate parties and a number of different candidates to select from for voters.
• Democracy can provide adjustments within the government through peaceful means. Within a democratic environment, through the election process, an authority figure can be reappointed from one party to another. A country's general public has the power to determine the ruling power for the country.
• Democracy gives citizens a sense of responsibility for their country. The current party in power owes a large part of their success in the elections to the people of their country. This notion results in a perception of gratitude toward the citizens. In turn, the citizens continue to be inspired to take an active role in their authority for electing strong government figures.
• On a similar note, citizens also gain a sense of input in the process of selecting the government. Citizens appreciate the opportunity to spread their personal views through the process of electoral voting. This feeling plays a significant role in the general well being of the society.
