Family Fun Tips for Holiday Travel

By: Laura Evans

If you are making holiday travel plans, remembering a few basics will help you to keep your sanity level under control.

Airports
If you are going to be flying with your family, get to the airport early. Remember not to wrap any presents that you may be bringing with you so that they can be inspected easily. Be patient with airline security; they are doing their jobs and trying to protect you.

If you have small children, try to schedule your flights during the time that they normally nap. Do not forget to bring that book that you have been wanting to read for a while in case your kids do sleep. You know all those magazines that you pretend that you do not like to read but immediately grab when you get your hair cut or when you go to the doctor's office? Get some of those. Just leave them on the airplane after you are finished so that no one else catches you reading them. Bring snacks. Airline food these days, if the airline that you choose even serves, may not be palatable enough or just simply not enough to keep hunger pangs at bay for your little tykes.

Driving
If you keep in mind that everyone else on the road is insane, you will probably be fine. Bring snacks and toys to keep your little ones busy and happy. Are you bringing some pets along for the ride? Do not forget to take along a bowl and some water for them. Hopefully, the kids and the pets will all take potty breaks at the same time.

Happy Holidays!
