Helpful Travel Packing Tips

By: Lisa Bower

The following are some travel packing tips to help you pack for your big trip. This way, you're not alone when it comes to remembering everything to put on a to-pack list and can save some time and energy in the process.

Think about what you absolutely need for traveling. Place necessary travel documents, place them in a ziplock, and put them in a bag you will have with you at all times. Consider things like laptop and cell phone chargers, and the minimum amount of clothes you will need. You can add luxury items later, but you want to start by placing the essentials into your bag. When it comes to chargers, do this the night before.

If you're bringing children along, keep a separate bag for them, their toys and their clothes. Keep all of their medication and essentials-like diapers and bottles-in an easy-to-access bag near you. Be sure to pack a small bag for them to keep with them: This bag can include things to keep them occupied, like toys and snacks.

Always fill a Ziplock bag with first aid items. You want to be ready to handle any situation that comes your way. If you're taking specific medications, put these in a separate baggie and make a list of the meds you are on. Keep both the list and the medicine with you at all times.

If you're taking a backpack, be sure to pack the lighter items first so that the heavier items are on top of the bag. This will make the bag feel lighter. Additionally, if you need to bring any dirty clothes, these items can be placed at the bottom of the bag, as they won't contaminate the items so fast.
