Inducing Labor Naturally During Pregnancy

By: Connie Earl Robertson

Most women are more than ready to have their baby when their due date gets close. It becomes even harder when their due date comes and goes. If this is your case, there is the possibility of inducing labor naturally during pregnancy.

Doctor's permission

Before you even consider doing something natural to induce your labor, check with your doctor and make sure that he or she is in agreement. The baby should be in position and ready to be born. Once that happens, it is only a matter of time.

Walk

Taking long walks is probably the safest way to get your labor started naturally. As your hips sway back and forth, it naturally causes the baby to get into the birthing position. By standing upright, the pull of gravity will also help the baby move into the pelvis.

Have sex

Having sex is a natural stimulation for your body to go into labor. Your orgasms will cause your body to release hormones that will soften the cervix. Another hormone that is released is oxytocin, which causes contractions to become stronger and stronger.

Stimulate your nipples

Breast massage or nipple stimulation also causes the body to release oxytocin. If the cervix is soft and ready for labor to begin, oxytocin will make contractions start. Nipple stimulation can be done by softly rubbing the nipples or by gently pulling them outward.

Drink herbal teas

There are several herbal teas that people swear will cause your labor to start. Raspberry tea seems to be the most common one. In some cases, women will even put raspberry leaves in their salads a week or two before their due date and eat them raw.

Relax

The best thing you can do when your due date gets close is to relax. Take time to rest and pamper yourself. In spite of all the suggestions for inducing labor naturally during pregnancy, the truth is that your baby will come when the time is right.
