Falling into Autumn
Korben, a three year old decided his one year old brother, Wyatt, should know his shapes, colors and know how to count. He even wanted to be the one to show him these wonderful things. So outside the boys and their mother ventured. Their mom stood and watched as the three year old gathered piles of leaves. He separated the piles into shapes and colors. It was amazing that a three year old had such advanced organizational skills. Then he took his little brother by the hand and show him each pile. Korben told him the color of each leaf and count as he went along. Then Korben started to make shapes with the leaves like circles and hearts.
So now they have made a game out of the leaves. First they count and pile up each color, red, orange, yellow, brown and green. Then the boys make a shape from each pile like circles, squares and even some harder ones like cat and bird shapes. It is always a blast to see what different things a child's vivid imagination can create. Not only that but just seeing how much they absorb by something so simple as playing with leaves is awe inspiring. The fun doesn't end there, after arranging and rearranging the leaves you can do what ever child should do with leaves in the Fall. Pile them up and yes, you guessed it, jump in them.
And you would not believe how many different little things they learn from such a simple game like that. You know these days, with the economy the way it is, it is so hard to find cheap entertainment for your children and even more so that those things will also teach your kids. Just think here they learn about the wonderful season Fall, counting, make shapes, they learn colors, how to organize, to be creative and the most important thing they learn is that learning can be so much fun. So, don't worry about raking those pesky leaves this Autumn, just play in them!
