Every Christmas children have their parents rushing around trying to find the latest Christmas hit. This year the ?'flying out of the shelf toy?' is the Zhu Zhu hamster.
Zhu Zhu hamsters are essentially just toy hamsters. The idea is you can give your child the fun of a pet rodent without any of the actual work or responsibility. In theory this does not sound so bad at all, right?
In practice the Zhu Zhu hamster is actually pretty mundane and most children are likely to get bored of them fairly quickly. A child getting bored of a toy is nothing new. A child becoming bored of a toy you will have to fight to get for Christmas, is sadly nothing new either.
However, the Zhu Zhu hamster alone will cost around $10, which is fine in the scheme of things. It?'s the play areas and accessories which will get you. There are a multitude of plastic balls, slides and even beds for these robotic hamsters. The problem is the Zhu Zhu hamsters work better with accessories.
Instead of buying your child multiple Zhu Zhu pet accessories, consider buying them the Zhu Zhu hamster and materials to build their own play area. Get cardboard, plenty of tape and cardboard tubes. You can get most of these for free by asking local shops but you may consider going to an arts and crafts store for a few decorations. Glitter lettering would allow your child to put the Zhu Zhu hamster?'s name above his cardboard house for example. The Zhu Zhu hamsters can roll down ramps and navigate around obstacles, so keep this in mind when building the area.
Instead of telling your child that the Zhu Zhu hamster accessories are too expensive, sell them on the idea that by making their own they can spoil their hamster. They can create larger areas and change them whenever they want to.
This is a great way to give your child the Zhu Zhu Hamster this Christmas without shelling out for the Zhu Zhu accessories.

Genealogy is defined in the dictionary as 'descent traced continually from ancestor', a study of pedigree. For most of us, it simply means trying to figure out what relation Aunt Millie's great -great grandson is to our daughter in law.

I recently had the opportunity to research my DNA and find out some long lost relatives through DNA testing from Gene Tree. Why not continue this great personal project by finding out more about my ancestors by joining a website devoted to helping people find and fill in their family tree.
