Finger Paint Recipes

By: Denise Oliveri

Make finger paint recipes together, and then sit back and watch your child create many fun designs and pictures. The great thing about making your own finger paint is that your child can decide what colors he or she likes best. Most of these recipes require cooking, which is to be done by an adult only.

Craft Difficulty Rating: Easy

Hint: Use glossy paper for best results when using finger paints.

Recipe #1

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups cold water
  • Food coloring of your choice

Directions:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients, except the food coloring, together in a pan. Cook over a low heat for 15 minutes. Stir constantly until the mixture is smooth and thick. Once the finger paint is thick, take it off the heat and let it cool for about 30 minutes.
  2. Divide the finger paint into airtight storage containers, depending on how many colors you would like. Add a few drops of food coloring to each container to get the colors you desire. Stir it very well.
  3. You are ready for finger painting.
