Peace Angel

By: Lucy Oliveri-O'Hearn

Your peace angel will look great at this and any time of the year. We all wish for peace, and this angel will put a smile on your face each time you look at it.

Begin by collecting all of the materials that you will need. Lay them out on your worktable; you may want to cover the table with newspaper first to make it easier when it's time to clean up.

Materials:

3 white paper plates

1 paper doily that is about the same size as the paper plate (if possible)

A couple of yards of yarn for hair (any color), or you can use colored construction paper and curl the ends up

1 sheet of construction paper for the face, hands, and feet

Glue

Glitter

Scissors

Colored pencils, crayons, or markers

Stapler

Tinfoil or silver or gold contact paper

A small note card, or colored paper to make a note card

Start by layering the 3 white paper plates. Cut them out in a large triangular shape. Staple them together at the top. This will keep the body secure as you work. Use the scraps of the paper plates to make two wings. Glue or staple them to the back paper plate. Use another scrap to make the arm sleeve and glue it down.

Next, using your colored construction paper, trace a medium sized circle that will look good for the head. Attach it to the top pointed section of the layered plates; it should be about half way onto the white plate (see picture). To attach the hair you can glue down little cut pieces of yarn or you can shape a piece of colored construction paper about the same size as the head. Slit the paper along the bottom area and curl it back. This way the hair looks 3-D and not flat.

I used some silver contact paper to cut out wavy lines and stick them to the layers of the gown. I added more silver contact paper to the wings and a little piece on the top of her head to look like a halo. You can add glitter and any other extras that you wish to make your angel even more sparkly. You can draw in eyes, eye lashes, a nose and mouth by using a marker. You can then draw or cut out a piece of red scrap paper for the heart-shaped cheeks. A little note card that reads "PEACE" will stay in the angel's hand. Remember you can add anything you like to make your angel even more unique.
