Recognize the Body Language of a Liar

If you learn the body language of a liar, you will never again have to wonder whether or not he’s telling the truth. While a liar might think that he has the perfect poker face and isn’t tipping you off to his deceptions, body language research has resulted in a list of the telltale signs of a liar. If he’s being dishonest, the odds are good that his body language will include at least one of these signs.

Posture Shifts
Beware of body movements. If the person in question starts to squirm, even little changes in his body posture, especially slouching, you could be witnessing the body language of a liar.

Eyes
Watch the eyes. In the body language of a liar, the eyes can give away a lot. Shifting eye contact, never making eye contact, excessive blinking or even dilated pupils can indicate that someone isn’t telling the truth.

Exaggeration
Have an eye out for exaggerated expressions. If someone is telling a tall tale, they may try to make you believe their story by putting on a show. If they look extra surprised, heartbroken or happy, they could be trying too hard, and covering up a lie.

Listen Up
If he mumbles or she starts to speak a little slower, if you hear a slightly higher pitch or notice lots of pauses, you may have a liar on your hands.

The Liar’s Touch
Take note of touching. When a person touches his nose, ears or face, this is an indication that the liar is feeling vulnerable or negative.

Palms Up or Down?
Look at palm placement. Believe it or not, most liars fib with their palms facing downward. Palms up is more vulnerable, while palms down is defensive.
