Many men are frustrated because they claim they don’t know what women are thinking. Once a man gains understanding of basic female body language, it’s easier to interpret what she’s really trying to say. While each individual woman expresses herself uniquely, there are some common signals that her body sends that can clue in even the most confused man. Interpreting body language is a skill that will make relationships smoother, all the way from first attraction through a serious connection.

Flirty
If she’s interested in you, learn to recognize some of the more common female body language signals that definitely display her interest. Prolonged eye contact is a powerful signal, as is touching an arm or shoulder repeatedly. Women also subconsciously preen when they are interested in a man and actions such as playing with her hair or a necklace are a good sign as well. Leaning in and sharing secrets are very strong signals that she is open to getting to know you better. Of course any one of these body language signals could be completely innocent, so look for a pattern of actions to determine her level of interest.

Confident
When a woman is confident and composed, it shows in how she moves. Watch for these signs when determining if a woman is the confident and independent type or a little less secure with who she is. Posture is important for a confident woman, so she will hold her head high and keep her shoulders back. A firm handshake and even stride are other signals of a confident female’s body language. Eye contact is a sure signal that she is not intimidated and is interested in expressing herself.

Unattracted
Many men want to know whether a woman is attracted to them through interpreting body language. While recognizing the signs of attraction are important, it’s also a good idea to learn what signals she’s sending when she isn’t interested. Some of the classic signs of disinterest are when she places a hand on her cheek or mouth, essentially putting a barrier between you. Crossed arms signals that she’s not open to you and when she constantly looks over your shoulder, it probably means she’s looking for an escape. Learn to recognize when a woman is just smiling with her mouth and not with her eyes—it’s a clue that she’s just being polite. Tapping or drumming her fingers is a subconscious gesture of impatience or boredom. Leaning back away from you often means she is unwilling to get to know you better.

Angry
While you can tell when a woman is angry when she loses her temper, there are signs that she may be sending out when that anger is just below the surface. Female body language is clearly sending signals of anger when her shoulders are tense and her fists and jaw are clenched. You may notice her eyes squinting slightly as well. Leaning back away from you when conversing signals that she doesn’t agree or has a different idea on the subject. Crossing her arms or legs is another strong signal that she is closing herself off to you.
