I Love You: Pros and Cons to Saying It First

If you're in a relationship that's going the distance, eventually one of you is going to have to say it - to drop the love bomb. It shouldn't be something to fear if it's how you truly feel, but outlined below are some of the pros and cons in being the first one in the relationship to say it.

Con: Saying it too early.
Knowing when to say it is crucial. Saying it too early in a relationship can scare someone away who might not feel that way yet, but could in the future. On the flipside, things tend to be really passionate when a relationship is new, but then burn out quickly. You don't want to drop an "I love you" then in a month realize that it's not really the case. Saying it in the first few weeks or months of a relationship is probably too early for either of you to tell if it's actually love.

Pro: You find out that your partner feels the same way.
Hooray for love! It is a wonderful feeling to say those three little words and hear them come back to you. Now that you both know you feel the same way, you can start being much more open about what the future holds for the both of you.

Con: You put it all out on the table and expose yourself to being hurt.
Once you say "I love you," it's out there and you can't take it back. Unfortunately, this might not be how your partner feels. Sure, it feels terrible if the words are not reciprocated, but that's just one of the things that come with life.

Pro: Getting rejected.
Yes, you can think of this as a pro. Even if you put it out there and are shot down, at least you're not going to be waiting around for something your partner might never say. At least now you can move on and look for the real thing.

Remember there are no real pros and cons when it comes to your emotions. How you feel is how you feel. If you really love someone, letting them know can never really be wrong.
