Single Parent Dating: How to Meet Other Single Parents

By: Lisa Bower

If you're a single parent, it can seem like there is no time to go out and meet other single parents. It makes sense that you'd want to meet other parents who are single: they know what it's like to have a kid, a family and responsibility. Single parent dating doesn't have to be difficult if you keep your ears and eyes open. It's possible to have a child, have a job and meet new people.

First off, keep your ears open around your friends, family members and coworkers. You may hear of other single parents in the area. Also, don't be afraid to ask these people for suggestions. People care about you, and if they know you're looking to start dating again, they may be able to help you.

Be sure to get out on your own at least once or twice a week. Ask friends and family members to watch your child or consider hiring a babysitter. You'll want to review the local newspaper's announcements and calendars, go to the library and look around town at the signs for community events. This is a chance for you to get out and do something for yourself. You may end up finding other singles in the area that share your interests.

Join a club, gym or church. This is a chance to meet new people in a new setting. This way, you know the sort of people you're around. Also, many communities have single's nights or single parent support groups. This is another way to meet other single parents and to get into the single parent dating game.

Keep your eyes open in public places, especially those to which you bring your child. If you're at the playground with your child or at the zoo with him or her, then there's a chance that there are other single parents around, too. This is a chance to identify potential dates. This way, you'll know they have a child and can strike up a conversation while your children play. You'll quickly know if they're married or not by the conversation, if they're alone or not and if they sport a wedding band.
