Wedding Etiquette for Out-of-Town Wedding Guests

By: Connie Earl Robertson

Wedding etiquette for out-of-town wedding guests is very important. Most of these guests have already spent a great amount of time and money just to attend your wedding. Here are some special things that you can do for them.

Lodging

Although it is never the bride's obligation to pay for hotel rooms for her out-of-town guests, there are things she can do to help. Check with local hotels to see which ones will give you the best deal. Once you have decided on the ideal place, ask the hotel to set aside a block of rooms for your guests. Inform guests in your wedding invitation, and ask them to register for their rooms as soon as possible.

Arrival packet

Make an arrival packet for all of your out-of-town guests. Include a list of all of the guests that will be coming and the room number where they will be staying. Along with this, include a map of your city and some interesting things to see. An itinerary of your wedding plans should also be inserted in the packet. Ask each hotel to give these to your guests at check-in.

A special gift

One way to show your out-of-town guests how much you appreciate them is to make a gift basket for each one. These can be placed in their rooms before they arrive. The baskets can be filled with toiletries, snacks, bottled water, fruit or items that are typical of the place where you live.

A limited budget

Many brides find it necessary to plan their wedding on a very limited budget. If that is your case, it is not mandatory that you purchase anything for your guests. You can show your appreciation with a phone call welcoming them to your town and letting them know how happy you are they arrived safely.

Thanking them

Be sure to personally thank each of your guests from out of town for making the effort to attend your wedding. Offering a toast to them for being there is another way to show your appreciation. When you send out thank you cards for the gifts they gave you, be sure to include how much you appreciate their presence at your wedding, too.
