Beach Wedding Ideas and Planning

Beach weddings ideas are among some of the most popular for marriage ceremonies. The crashing of waves, cry of gulls and smell of salty air somehow combine for a powerful and breathtaking influence. There are as many different beach wedding ideas as there are grains of sand, so it should never be hard to find your perfect fit.

A beach wedding can be as simple or as lavish as the couple desires. You can go completely natural, with raw fibers and flowers grown locally. You can take a relaxed approach with sundresses and linen suits. You can invoke the spirit of the tropics with exotic florals and sweet fruits. You can even go all out, with a complete orchestra and tons of bling.

The beach is just as romantic during the night as it is during the day. Use tiki lamps, strings of small lights or fun floral lights to brighten up the area for the wedding. Try a luau theme and do a late-night pig roast or have everyone dress in black-tie for champagne and lobster.

Whatever your beach wedding theme, there are a few rules that go along with planning a wedding on the sand and surf. The event will be taking place outdoors, obviously, so careful weather watching and rented tents may be required. Always have a back up plan when planning an outdoor wedding, just in case everything goes wrong.

Rain or shine, if you and your guests are going to be exposed to the sun, you need to think about sunscreen. A bright day may be ideal for a beach wedding, but it can make for a very sunburned honeymoon. Make sure everyone in the wedding party has access to sunscreen. Also think about including small bottles of sunscreen as part of the guest's wedding favors.

The beach setting can pose some problems when it comes to the wedding party and guests. If attending the ceremony requires traversing a large swath of sand, warn everyone. High heels can be hell for walking in sand, and people may want removable or alternate shoes. This goes for the bride and groom as well, unless you plan on being barefoot.

The wedding gown may need to be altered to fit the beach setting. Any long dress or veil trains will likely drag along the beach, becoming dirty and heavy. It's best to use styles that don't drag and materials that don't easily stain.
