If you're looking for things to do while camping, there is an endless variety of activities to choose from. Though some options may depend on your location, most activities are suited for many different camping vacations.
- Play games that don't need equipment. There are lots of different games you can play when you go outdoor camping. You don't even need to pack any extra equipment to have some simple fun. Try a game of tag, tug-of-war, I-spy, hopscotch, or hide and seek. You can also have relay races, three-leg races or sprint races.
- Play games that do need equipment. If you have a little extra space in your camping gear, try slipping in a fun game item. You can bring cards, board games, footballs, soccer balls, jump ropes or Frisbees.
- Enjoy nature. One of the best things about going camping is the chance to really enjoy nature. Depending on your location, you may be able to go boating, hiking, walking, running, swimming, climbing, biking, backpacking, horseback riding or bird watching.
- Go hunting. While many people may go camping to hunt and kill an animal, that's not the only type of hunting available to you. You can go scavenger hunting for a certain list of items. You can go bird or plant hunting to learn about nature. You can go rock or shell hunting to start a collection. You can even go treasure hunting for a hidden prize.
- Go sightseeing. Going sightseeing while camping can be as easy as just taking a walk. Make sure to research your camping area before you go so that you know about any special sights you may want to include. If you rather go sightseeing for animals, try sitting quietly in the woods during dawn or dusk. Remember to keep downwind of the area your hoping to see an animal in.
- Build something. Camping gives you the perfect opportunity to learn about a more rustic way of living. Try building yourself a campfire for warmth, a lean-to for shelter or a blind for animal watching. You can also get creative and have a mini-building contest. Use twigs, rocks and dirt to create a mini cabin for squirrels or a tiny village for ants.
- Take time to relax. You're away from the hustle and bustle of busy life when you go camping, so take some time to relax. Try sitting back and amusing yourself by picking out shapes in the clouds, gazing at the stars, telling ghost stories or just spend the time chatting with your fellow campers.
- Get creative. If you feel like being a little creative on your camping trip, you may want to bring a few supplies with you. Bring a notebook and pencil so you can keep a nature journal to record any plants or animals you observe. Bring a sketchbook and some colored pencils so you can draw any plants or animals you observe.
