Basic Skeet Shooting Tips

Learn some basic skeet shooting tips. Skeet shooting is a form of clay shooting, is a popular and fun kind of target shooting.  A clay disk, known as a pigeon, is flung into the air above an arc shaped field, where you try to shoot it down before it hits the ground. Skeet shooting differs from other types of clay shooting, such as trap, because it has different rules and positions. Nevertheless, like most forms of target shooting, it is wonderful practice for actual bird hunting.

The first basic skeet shooting tip is to make sure you're using a quality gun.
You need a gun that fits perfectly in your hands and feels natural when aimed. Any problems with your gun, such as being too heavy or too light, will ultimately affect your accuracy. Without a good gun, you're shooting accuracy is going to drop dramatically.

Along with a quality gun, you're going to need quality equipment.
A pair of good earplugs or earmuffs can be important to your concentration. If your earplugs or earmuffs are too flimsy, the gunshot will likely startle you. If the earplugs or earmuffs are uncomfortable, they'll distract you and ruin your concentration.

Remember to breathe while shooting - never hold your breath.
The best way to stay relaxed and focused is to remember to keep breathing! Holding your breath just tenses the body, making it more likely you'll miss your target. By depriving the brain of oxygen you are also slightly reducing your reaction time.

Focus on the target, not the gun barrel.
Another basic skeet shooting tip is that if you focus on your gun barrel, you're very likely to miss the shot. Always keep your eyes focused on the actual target to help increase your overall shot accuracy.

Check your body position when you take a shot.
The way your body is facing will help determine where that shot goes. You want to firmly plant your feet for stability and make sure your entire body is facing the same direction.

Practice makes perfect.
Keep on practicing. Nothing will help your shot accuracy like getting used to the entire skeet shooting process. Soon you'll master these basic skeet shooting tips and your actions will become automatic and you'll be able to break those clay disks without a second thought.
