Popular Dance Moves
Popular dance moves are built from the basic steps of dancing. These steps may or may not be embellished, depending on the type of dance and the region you are in. Once you master these moves, you can adapt them to many different types of dances.
Charlie Brown Dance Moves
Start by hopping on your right foot and raising your left foot off the floor at the same time. Step with your left foot while pushing your right foot behind you. In this step, both feet should touch the floor at the same time. Pull both arms back, bending them at the elbows. As you are pulling both arms back, hop on the left foot. Continue with the hop/step pattern, alternating your feet for each round.
Cha-Cha Slide Dance Moves
These complicated popular dance moves are based on the Cha-Cha dance move.
- Take it left: Step to the side with the left foot, then step across the left foot with the right foot. Step to the side with the left foot, then touch the right foot beside the left foot.
- Take it right: This is the same as take it left, but where you would move with the left foot, you would move with the right foot instead.
- Take it back: Step back with the left foot, then with the right foot, then the left foot again. Touch the right foot to the left foot, then hop forward once or twice. Stomp with the left foot.
The next part of the dance is to do the jazz square, another popular dance move. Cross the right foot over the left foot, then step back with the left foot. Step to the right with the right foot then step forward with the left foot. After this, turn it out by making a slight turn to the left, then stepping to the right with the right foot. Step across the right foot with the left foot, then step to the side with the right foot. Touch the left foot beside the right. Clap your hands with the beat of the music.
Jump with both feet out, then jump and cross your right foot over the left foot. Jump both feet out again, then jump with both feet together. Step to the left with the left foot, then slide your right foot to meet the left foot. Step to the right with the right foot, then slide the left foot to meet the right foot.
The next part of the dance is the classic limbo step. Lean back toward the floor, then bend down as low as you can go without falling. Pull yourself back up into a standing position. Put your right hand on your left knee and your left hand on your right knee. Bend your knees and bounce to the beat, crossing your hands from knee to knee. At the end of the song, strike a pose. These popular dance moves are fun to learn and to try.
