Popular Modern Dance Moves

Modern dance moves sometimes seem both graceful and awkward. The bottom line, however, is that modern dance moves are always visually interesting, if not astounding.

Modern Dance Moves: Floor Slide
Sit on the floor cross-legged. Uncross the right leg, bend the knee and place the right foot on the ground in front of the left foot. The left knee should be flat on the ground. Reach out and place your left arm palm down on the ground, with your elbow slightly bent. You are going to push with your right foot and pull with your left arm and palm to slide along the ground. As you slide, the knee on the ground should end up leading the rest of your body.

Modern Dance Moves: Forced Arch

Stand with your feet flat on the ground. Then, Stand up on the balls of your toes. Your heels will not touch the ground. In order to force the arch, bend your knees. To walk, move forward on the bottoms of your toes while you bend your knees. You will be using the muscles in your thighs during this step. You can do this backwards as well. The more that you bend your knees, the more that your butt will push back behind you, making the crown of your head point forward to help you keep your balance.

Modern Dance Moves: Switch Leap
Step onto your right foot. Bring your left knee up to your hip level in front of you and then throw your left knee behind your body while you leap forward from your right foot. As your left leg extends behind you, your upper body will lean forward. You will land on your right leg with a bent knee.
