In football you have eleven people on one side of the ball at one time, depending on what position someone is playing the equipment will differ. The basic equipment that everyone wears is the same, just modified depending on the person. Everyone wears a helmet, shoulders, knee pads, thigh pads, hip pads, tailbone pad, and a mouth piece. The helmets that players wear will be different depending on what position they are playing. A kicker will sometimes wear a helmet with just one bar for a face mask. This is so he has a better view of the Field and because he rarely gets hit. The quarterback wears a face mask that has a few more bars across it but still has to have few enough for good vision, he may also wear a rib protector which is a padded wrap around that ties in the front that keeps from bruising and breaking ribs. Quarterbacks get hit from the side and the back before they see it coming so they don't have a chance to block the blow.
Linemen usually wear face masks that have many bars going across and down to prevent eye gouges and hands coming towards their face. You will also see many of them wearing knee braces to help sturdy their knees when a pile is formed and they get knocked around at different angles. The linemen are in the middle of every play and someone could fall on their knee and ankle and end their career in a split second so ankle taping and knee braces are a smart move on their part.
Linebackers are similar to linemen in their equipment they normally don't wear knee braces because it hurts their movement. The receivers on offense and the defensive backs sometime don't wear their knee and thigh pads so they have more movement and can run faster. The most affective equipment that football players have is their strength, agility, and the ability to think on their feet. You have to be able to make quick decisions and have fast reflex time. That is why the sport is so fun and entertaining to watch.
Choosing youth football helmets and other equipment is an important process. |
