The Michael Vick Promise
When Micheal Vick played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2006, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards during the regular season. That same year, he also set the NFL record for most yards per carry in a season at 8.4 according to ESPN.com. Looking at that fact, that's something really to be proud of because thats the whole goal of a quarterback, to get as many yards a play they can. Almost everyone knows about Vick's prior dog fighting incident and looks down on him because of it. Whether or not you agree with Vick's lifestyle choices, he was once a great quarterback and he redefined the way defenses keep a careful eye on a QB when they can do more than just pass.
While watching some old clips of Vick in his glory years while playing for the Falcons, you see not only a great runner, but a guy with great vision too. There's no doubt he can stun and amaze you if you're not careful, but as a second string quarterback behind Donovan McNabb for the Philadelphia Eagles, will he get a chance to relive the greatness he once was? Since coming to the Eagles, Vick has only been incorporated in 18 plays and generated only 30 yards, not exactly groundbreaking. When signing with the Eagles, head coach Andy Reid was planning on utilizing Vick in their Wildcat offense called the "Spread Eagle" but with injuries to their offensive line that plan is slowly diminishing. Vick expressed that he doesn't like the Wildcat, he'd much rather drop back and pass like a normal quarterback; unfortunately for Micheal, the Eagles have a great quarterback in the starting position along with Kevin Kolb who threw over 300 yards in back-to-back games in his first two starts, the first quarterback in NFL history to do so.
Micheal feels that being with the Eagles isn't going to be permanent and he knows his future is going to be elsewhere. "My time will come in the future," he recently told beat reporters standing at his locker. "I'm still a young guy. I've got the fortitude to do what's right, and hopefully, I get another opportunity in this league." He was once a great quarterback and if he gets a true opportunity at the starting position in the NFL, we might see his greatness appear once again
