Longboard skateboard gloves, also known as sliding or skate gloves, are essential to any type of sliding you may do while on your longboard or skateboard. Longboard gloves will protect your hands from the pavement while you slide. While you could go to the store and buy a pair of longboard gloves, it's easier and more cost-effective to make them yourself.
You can find most of the supplies you'll need to make longboard gloves at your local hardware store. You'll need something for your hands to slide on (called pucks). A cutting board or Corian plastic tiles, which can be found in the countertop sections of many home improvement stores (often for free) make great pucks. You can pick up some gardening or mechanic's gloves to adhere the cutting board or tiles to. You'll need a jigsaw to slice through the cutting board or tiles (remember to wear protective eye gear!) and a file. Also, get industrial strength Velcro and some seriously strong glue or contact cement.
The first thing you want to do is to decide what design you want your pucks to be in. Some skaters choose to have individual pucks on each finger, as well as one large one on the palm of the glove. Others have two pucks going across the fingers (one puck for two fingers) and one puck on the palm. The thumb is optional and generally used for aggressive skaters who take major turns.
Next, using the jigsaw, cut the tiles or cutting board into the shapes (squares for individual fingers, rectangles if they'll be covering two fingers) and sizes that you want. File the sides so that there aren't any jagged edges. Using the glue, attach one side of the Velcro to your gloves and the other to the tile. Press the Velcro together and let it set. You can put something heavy on the gloves to make sure that all of the materials adhere properly to the gloves.
Once the glue or cement has dried, you're ready to slide! Be sure to wear protective gear when skateboarding.
Longboarding has become increasingly popular over the years, especially around the college students and people surrounded by the beach scene. |
Learning how to maintain skateboard trucks is an important part of good skateboard preservation, especially if you have a cheap skateboard or cheap skateboard trucks. |
Longboarding is easier than riding a shortboard because ithe added length makes a longboard more stable. You can either cruise on a longboard or race downhill. |
The wheels of longboard skateboards determine how fast they travel and how smoothly they ride. |
