WWE Kane Facts

The WWE, or World Wrestling Entertainment, is an entertainment company that deals with entertainment wrestling. Kane is one of the wrestlers that perform for the company. He started with them in 1995, when the WWE was the WWF or the World Wrestling Federation. He has held numerous titles since and is one of the most recognizable faces in professional entertainment wrestling.

Personal life and biography

Kane's real name is Glenn Thomas Jacobs. Though American, he was born in Madrid, as his father was in the U.S. Air Force. He was an athlete in school and studied English Literature at Truman State University. Today, he spends a lot of time writing and reading in his personal life. He says that 'The Lord of the Rings' is his favorite novel. He is a Libertarian.

Wrestling persona

Kane's wrestling persona seems very different from his real life persona. His nicknames in the ring are 'The Big Red Monster' and 'The Devil's Favorite Demon.' The first is in reference to his large stature, at 7 feet tall and more than 300 pounds, as well as the red mask he often wears in the ring. Of course, the latter is to make him sound like he is a terrifyingly evil fighter.

Every entertainment wrestler has a fictional backstory. Kane's backstory is that his mask is to cover burns that he got in a fire started by another wrestler known as The Undertaker. He has had a supposedly horrible life and has taken to on-screen counseling that is clearly for show. Basically, his persona is like that of any horror film bad guy-tough childhood, deformities, grudges and anger management problems.

Start in wrestling

Kane was in wresting for roughly three years before joining what was then the WWF in 1995. His first character was a demented dentist who fought the bigger stars in the corporation and lost. He fought several matches as Dr. Isaac Yankem before transitioning into the short-lived character Diesel. Kane was introduced in 1997 as a means for Paul Bearer to taunt Kane's half-brother, The Undertaker.

Kane's first appearances on WWE were fuel that fired a feud between him and The Undertaker. He first showed up and ruined a match for The Undertaker in October of 1997. The Undertaker beat Kane several times over the course of this initial feud. Also, during this time, the history of the two was revealed. Their childhood, the fire that burned Kane, and their connections to Paul Bearer were revealed.

Success with the WWE

Kane has been a popular wrestler with the WWE since his debut roughly 15 years ago, as of 2012. He has been part of several groups and tag teams, as well as performing on his own in numerous fights. He was unmasked for several years, showing an unscarred face. However, in 2011, the mask reappeared and is now even larger than the original half-mask.

Kane has held the World Tag Team Championship nine times. He has held 11 other titles, some more than once. He has had multiple distinctions, such as Tag Team of the Year from Pro Wrestling Illustrated and Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic from Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
