How to Make a Washer Toss Game

Learn how to make a washer toss game. It's a great indoor/outdoor game that entertains all ages can be constructed with a few basic pieces: plywood, 2 by 4s, and PVC pipe. What You Need

A washer pitching game does not require a huge investment in money or time. To construct the boxes, you will need these materials:

  • Table or hand saw
  • Tape measure
  • Drill
  • Outdoor carpeting (optional)
  • Wood glue or Liquid Nails
  • Paint
  • Plywood
  • 2 by 4's
  • 2-inch screws
  • 2 ½ by 4 inch PVC pipe
  • 8 Washers

How to Make the Boxes

  • First, measure and cut the 2 by 4s into eight 16-inch pieces. Cut a diagonal end to each 2 by 4, keeping the long side of each piece at 16 inches. Don't' want to make the diagonal cuts? That's okay. Trim three inches on four pieces of 2 by 4. No matter which style you choose, the boards should form a square box.
  • Secondly, cut the PVC pipe into two 3 ½ inch pieces.
  • Then, form two boxes using four 2 by 4s for each box. Put wood glue on the ends to hold the pieces together. Screw two screws into each piece of wood. This makes the box sturdy.  
  • Now, paint the boxes, if you would like. Otherwise, leave the boxes au natural.
  • Then, cut two 16-inch squares from the plywood. If you choose to use outdoor carpeting, glue the carpet to each piece of plywood. Drill screws into the plywood to attach the 2 by 4 frame.
  • Next, glue one piece of PVC pipe into the middle of each box. Allow the glue should to dry for at least an hour.
  • Finally, select two colors of paint for the washers. Paint four washers one color and the remaining washers the other color.
