Six Ways To Find Cheap Airline Tickets

airline tickets

We all love the thought of taking to the skies in search of adventure, escape or simply new horizons, but we don't want to empty our bank accounts to do so. There's good news. With some knowledge and helpful tips, you can find cheap airline tickets and can use the money you save for something more exciting, such as visiting attractions or buying souvenirs.

Be Flexible
We all want to travel at the time that's most convenient. It would be great to board your plane after breakfast and arrive in time for lunch, but that's not the best way to get discount airline tickets. If you want cheap airline tickets, you need to be flexible about the dates and times that you plan to travel.

Traveling on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Saturdays will usually save you some money, while taking an early morning or late night flight provides another way for you to save. Consider flying to a smaller airport to save on the costs of airline tickets, but make sure you won't eat up your savings in getting to and from that airport.

If you're searching for airline tickets online, then you can usually search for a couple of days on either side of your preferred date. You should also consider making a stopover (direct flights are more expensive) as long as you can afford to give up the extra time or flying standby outside of peak periods. This can give you a really cheap ticket as airlines look to fill as many seats as possible. However, in peak holiday periods, this is a risky strategy which may leave you on the ground while the plane takes off.

Book Early
Buying airline tickets in advance is a great way to save money. Airlines typically work with 7, 14 and 21 day schedules. Booking 21 days ahead will usually give you the best value, but it's also possible to pick up cheap airline tickets on seven and 14 day deals. If you're booking for a holiday period, it's worth booking even earlier than 21 days ahead. Don't jump at the first deal you see. Check what's happening with airfares over a given period so that you will know whether you are really getting cheap airline tickets.

Compare To Save
When you're ready to search for discount airline tickets, use an online comparison engine to see what's available. Check out Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz to see what deals are available. These sites often have exclusive discount air travel deals. Aggregator sites such as Cheapflights and Farechase are also a good bet.
