The Best Places to Visit in Europe

Deciding on the best places to visit in Europe is a difficult task. There are so many beautiful, historical and exciting places to go that it is nearly impossible to create one succinct list of the must-see places. Whether you go for European rail travel, backpacking or just sightseeing, you will find that Europe is full of rich history, impressive architecture and breathtaking views that people of all ages can appreciate.

Paris

Known as the most romantic city in the world, Paris is a mecca for art, fashion, architecture and delicious food. Of course, Paris is best known for being home to several popular tourist attractions, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre art museum and Notre Dame cathedral.

London

London is one of the most exciting cities in the world and has a perfect balance between old-world charm and contemporary happenings. There are plenty of historic churches, castles and museums to visit, not to mention some of the world's biggest tourist attractions, like Buckingham Palace and Big Ben. London is also known for its amazing shopping and exciting nightlife. This is a city that truly has something for everyone.

The Greek Islands

With its trademark white buildings and bright blue ocean water, Greece is one of the most picturesque locations in the world. The warm beaches are only part of the appeal; there are also helicopter tours of the islands, waterside restaurants, beach clubs, sailing, windsurfing and wine tasting.

Madrid

The capital of Spain is a hub of incredible food, culture and history. Tourists rave about the delicious churros and tapas, which are Madrid's culinary claims to fame. Other must-see attractions include the Prado and Reina Sofia art museums, the extraordinary Palacio Royal  and seeing a Real Madrid soccer game.

Rome

Exploding with a huge array of historical sites and iconic attractions, it is clear to see that Rome couldn't possibly have been built in a day. From the incredible ancient Coliseum amphitheater to Vatican City to hundreds of world-renowned restaurants, Rome boasts many exciting and awe-inspiring places of interest. The architecture alone is some of the best in the world and truly makes this city one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Salzburg

Salzburg may be the fourth-largest city in Austria, but it is filled to the brim with incredible sights and attractions. Music enthusiasts flock to Salzburg constantly, as it is best known for being the birthplace of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the location of the movie The Sound of Music.  Mozart's home is a huge tourist attraction and his family is buried in a nearby churchyard. For Sound of Music fans, there are regular tours that visit filming locations, as well as the incredible Alps mountain range.

When it comes to the world's best places to visit, Europe really does have it all. No matter where your European travel vacation takes you, you will undoubtedly have an educational and exhilarating trip.
