Transferring information is the new way to communicate and educate one another in the digital age. File transfer is a generic term that expresses the act of transmitting files from one computer network to the other or via the Internet. Information is no longer written down on a hard copy and sent to one another but it is rather encoded in binary on the computer and from their distributed accordingly. There are two aspects to File transfer, the sending of the file and the receiving of the file. The sending of files is usually controlled by a series of computers called file servers. A file server does nothing more than provided storage for information and the rapid retrieval of that information. The other aspect of file transfer is the client, and that is the receiver of that information.
During the process of file transfer, information depending on the outlook of the user is either uploading or downloading. The difference between the two is files are considered to be uploading when information is being transferred from a computer to a central server while downloading refers to the transfer of file from the central server to a smaller computer unit. Almost all computer users perform this function on a daily basis, this process happens when we retrieve games, audio files, video files and so on. It is constantly done when emails are checked, they are downloaded from the servers and once you are done replying the information is then uploaded on the server. When sending files via a network, an FTP is necessary before the action of transferring can take place. FTP simply stands for " File Transfer Protocol," and it describes how the information is going to be sent between the two computers.
There are two forms of file sharing in the digital world; Pull-Based file transfers and Push-Based file transfers. A Pull-Based file transfers is when the receiver initiates a request for a file transfer and the Push-Based is when the sender initiates a file transmission request. Transferring of file can be done on certain levels in the world of computers. People transfer files over instant messages or on LAN networks, peer-to-peer networks such as Limewire and many more. File transferring has made the sharing of information just a click away in the digital age.
