It's surprisingly common for people to uninstall Norton. Though it is perhaps the most widely used antivirus and firewall software, Norton Software is also one of the most frequently attacked and disabled antivirus programs. Because of this and other sometimes frustrating issues (long wait times while it loads, trial periods that have ended, etc.), many people choose to uninstall Norton.
There are a few ways to uninstall Norton. One is to use the Add/Remove Programs function in your Control Panel. First, Click on Start and find the Control Panel in the Start menu. Click on Control Panel and find "Add/Remove Programs" in the folder. All of the programs on the computer will come up and be listed on the screen. Find the Norton program and click on it. It should then give you the option to change or remove the program. Click "Remove." This will bring you to one more screen. Make sure you click "Remove All" and then follow and other directions that come up. You will be asked to reboot the computer once the removal process has finished. Reboot the computer and the software should be removed from your system.
Norton has also created an Automatic Removal Program that you can download from its website, making it easy to uninstall Norton software. Go here. Click "Save File" when the program box pops up on your screen. Make a note of where you save it. Make sure you close all Norton Application windows you have open and double-click on Norton_Removal_Too.exe to begin the process. This is when it's good to remember where you've saved the removal program. If you have Windows Vista, you will have to right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator." The program will run automatically and you will be asked to restart the computer once the removal tool finishes. As with above, when you restart the computer the software should be removed from your system.
