How to Open a TTF File

Wondering how to open a TTF file? Whether you've got TTF Helvetica or TTF script, the process is the same across the board.

What is a TTF file?
A TTF file is a TrueType Font file. These fonts are designed to a special standard that enables them to be resized without changing the font's appearance. TrueType fonts also print the way they look on the screen, which isn't necessarily true of other font styles. If you want to ensure your font looks the same when you resize or print it, using a TrueType font, such as TTF Helvetica or TTF script, is the way to go.

How to install TTF fonts.
Like any other font, TTF files can be installed via your Control Panel. Go to the Start Menu, and then browse to your Control Panel. Go to your Fonts folder, where you can view all the different fonts installed on your system. Depending on the version of Windows you're using, you can install new fonts in two ways: either via the File menu or by right-clicking.

If you have a File menu at the top of your Fonts folder, enter the File menu and click the option to Install New Font. From there, you can browse to the folder that contains your new font and install it.

If you don't have a File menu at the top of the Fonts folder, you can right-click anywhere in the folder to bring up a menu. One of the options on the menu is Install New Font. From there, browse to the folder that contains the new font you want to install, and click Install.

Use a Font Viewer to manage your fonts.
If you don't want to worry about navigating Windows folders and making sure your fonts are in the right place, you can install a font viewer to manage your fonts. A font viewer, such as Amp Font Viewer, enables you to view and manage all the fonts on your system. With a font viewer, you can see which fonts are installed and which ones aren't, and you can easily add or remove fonts.

Use a Font Editor to open and make changes to fonts.
If you want to create new fonts or edit fonts, you can do it using a font editor program. One of the most popular font editors is FontCreator. With FontCreator, you can create both TrueType fonts and OpenType fonts. If you prefer a free font editor, FontForge offers many options to create and edit different font styles. You can only edit a font in a font editor; you can't edit a TrueType Font in any graphics program or document.
