One of the best aspects of the iPhone is the range of apps it offers, and many of the most exciting apps you can download are free. The following apps make your commute easier, keep you in touch with friends and entertain you for hours, all without your spending a dime:
1. Stanza. You'll never run out of good reading material with this app, which offers book downloads from several different libraries. Many of their offerings are available from the public domain, although you can also buy more recent books.
2. Evernote. You won't forget a single moment with Evernote. Take a photo or record a quick thought, and then tag it for easy reference later. One of Evernote's neatest tricks is that it can make the text that appears in your photos searchable.
3. Pandora. Pandora is a much-loved online music service that streams music based on your preferences. All you need to do is type in the name of a favorite band, and Pandora will deliver music from that band, plus other music that falls within that band's genre.
4. i.TV. i.TV may seem like an easy way to get your local TV listings, but it goes even further than that. From i.TV, you can record a show on your TiVo or find a movie in Netflix if you missed it. You can also get theater showtimes and movie tickets.
5. Instapaper. A dream app for those with a long commute, Instapaper lets you bookmark and save online articles to read later, for when you don't have Internet access.
6. Fring. Fring lets you consolidate several IM services so you can IM your friends on your iPhone whether they are on Google Talk or ICQ. You can also call up your buddies using VoIP.
7. Loopt. When it comes to social networking, sometimes you just want to get offline and meet face-to-face. Loopt tracks your friends by GPS so you can find them on a map, and maybe you can take your conversation from IM to the coffee shop.
8. Remote. Need a remote control for your iPod or your computer's iTunes player? Just download this app. The remote has an added bonus in that you can listen to songs that you didn't have room for on your iPhone, which allows you to use the space on your iPhone for even more apps.
9. Virtual Zippo Lighter. Okay, this one's just for kicks. Even if you don't smoke, this app means you can always hold up a lighter during a power ballad at a rock concert.
"Where can I purchase an iPhone?" is an increasingly common question as the phones become more popular. Truth is, you can purchase an iPhone in many places, but your needs may dictate that one option is better than the others. |
iPhone tethering allows you to use your iPhone's Internet connection on your laptop. Before you get started, though, you should know a few facts about tethering, including how it affects your AT&T service. |
