How to Install iPhone Themes

By: Dachary Carey

Wondering how to install iPhone themes? One of the great things about the iPhone is the ability to customize it endlessly, and installing themes is just another way to make your mark on your iPhone.

Jailbreaking and Installer.
Theme management programs require you to jailbreak your iPhone not just once but every time you install a firmware update, so keep this in mind when you're shopping for a theme program. You also need an application called Installer on your iPhone, which enables you to install programs and applications that aren't officially supported by Apple.

Use a theme management program.
The easiest way to install iPhone themes on your mobile phone is to install a theme management program. You have several different choices for theme management programs, but which one you choose depends on which themes you want to use and which version of the iPhone firmware you're running.

SummerBoard is a popular theme program, as is WinterBoard, the newer version of SummerBoard. Again, these programs are designed to work with only certain versions of the iPhone firmware, so you may need to look around to find the right program for your iPhone version. Also, you may need to reboot your iPhone after installing a theme management program.

Download your themes.
Depending on the program you use to manage your themes, you may have different procedures for downloading themes. If you use SummerBoard, you can go to Installer, scroll down to the Themes (SummerBoard) folder and click on a theme that you want to download. Click the Install button, and click Install when the dialog screen pops up. Wait for the theme to download.

Install your themes.
Once you've downloaded your theme, go to your theme management program. Click into your program, and go to the Theme option to select the theme you want to use. Click on the theme you want to apply to your phone.

Different theme management programs give you different options at this point. Some enable you to choose whether to change your icons, background or wallpaper; others automatically change everything based on the theme. Decide what parts of the theme you want to install, and then close out of your theme program.

Experiment with different themes.
You'll find plenty of themes out there, so don't be afraid to experiment with different themes to find the one you like. You can even install multiple theme management programs to handle themes designed for different software. Ultimately, themes don't take up a lot of space on your iPhone, so you can probably afford to install many themes to find the perfect one for your mobile phone.
