Buying Kindle reader for PC means you'll be buying books and reading in no time. As with any new technology, there's still a lot to discover about this digital book reader. Let's take a look at some Kindle's lesser-known skills.

Document Reader
For readers who want to view text in the popular PDF or Word document format, the Kindle reader for PC offers a free service to convert these files into one of the formats that Kindle can read. You just need to send the files as an attachment to yourname@free.kindle.com. Kindle will e-mail them back to you in the proper format, and you can upload them back to your Kindle.

Instant Audiobooks
The second-generation Kindle reader features a text reader that will read a book to you when you are on the move. You can choose from male and female voices and switch from reading to listening. However, not all publishers enable this feature, and the experience isn't as good as listening to a pro uttering the words of your favorite author.

Clock
Ever want to check the time with your Kindle reader? For original Kindle users, you simply need to hit Alt-T, and the time should pop up in a text box. Kindle 2 and Kindle DX users can do another trick to get the time. In the search box, you can type "@time" and hit Enter. The result will pop up the date and time.

Calculator
If you want to check the math from a book or a news story, you can with a Kindle reader. Just use the search bar to perform basic math functions. Type the equation in like you would on a normal calculator: For example, 1+1. When you hit enter, the search results should bring back the answer.

Alt-Shift-O: When you're in the picture viewer, this saves the current pic as your screensaver.
Alt-Shift-G: Takes a screenshot of the currently displayed screen.
