"How do I download iTunes onto my computer?" is a question that more and more people are asking as iTunes continues to earn a reputation as a premier music management program. Whether you have an iPod or you just want to use iTunes to manage your music library, you can easily download and install iTunes on your computer.
Download the install file directly from Apple.
Some Web sites host an iTunes install file, but you should always get your iTunes install file directly from Apple. If you download the install file from other sources, you may not get the most recent version of iTunes, or you may get a corrupted version or a file that contains Spyware or viruses.
To download iTunes, simply connect to the Internet, open your Web browser, go to Apple's Web site and click on the iPod + iTunes tab. Select the blue Download iTunes button on the right side of the screen. On the download page, you'll see a big blue Download Now button on the left-hand side of the screen. If you want to provide your e-mail address to receive updates and useful information, provide it in the enclosed box; otherwise, uncheck the e-mail update boxes. Then press Download Now. Press the Save File button when the dialogue box pops up, designate a location where you'll be able to find it and then download the install file.
Once you've downloaded iTunes, you need to install it. Double-click on the iTunes setup icon to begin the installation process. You'll see a screen where you can customize your installation. Select the settings you want to use, including the option of whether or not to install an icon to your desktop or whether you want to use iTunes as your default player. Click Next, and follow the program prompts to install iTunes. You'll need to restart your computer when the installation is complete.
Open iTunes, and let it find music.
Once you've restarted your computer, open iTunes either from your Windows Start menu or your desktop icon. When you open iTunes for the first time, it asks if you want to search for music. Click the "Add MP3s and AAC files" button to let it find your existing music and add it to the iTunes library. You'll also have the option of allowing iTunes to organize your music, so decide whether or not you want it to take over all of your music management or if you just want to use it as a music player and manually manage your music on your own.
Add whatever music you want.
You can use the iTunes store to add music to your iTunes library. Simply click on the iTunes Store icon in your iTunes music player, and click the Sign In button. If you don't have an account, you'll be prompted to create one by entering the requested information. Remember your login information, as you'll need to re-enter your password when you download music on subsequent sessions. From there, you simply browse for the music you want and click "Buy." If you have a valid payment method on file, you can download whatever iTunes music you want to your computer directly from the iTunes store.
