Where to Post Photos Online

By: Jenney Cheever

Find out where to post photos online. The key to photo sharing sites is often a matter of features. While our parents shared their vacation photos through living-room slideshows, most of us now choose to share our pictures with photo sharing Web sites. These sites make it easy to send new photos to family and friends or to create online albums.

  • Flickr: Flickr is one of the best places to post photos online. It is relatively easy to use, even for a beginner, and offers lots of cool options to allow you to organize, manipulate and share your photos. A basic account in free, but there is a limit to the number of photos you can upload and the features you can access. You can upgrade to a paid pro account, which allows you to upload as many photos as you wish, and gives you access to all the editing features Flickr has to offer. Flickr also allows users to interact with each other by leaving comments on photos, so it's part photo sharing and part social networking.
  • Photobucket: Photobucket is also free for a basic account and is another one of the best places to post photos online. Photobucket allows you to create albums with custom URLs, which makes it easy to link images to your blog or Web sites. Privacy settings allow you to control whether your photos are public or private. Photobucket users can also upgrade to a Pro account, which allows unlimited uploads, as well as extra features not available to free account users.
  • Shutterfly: The biggest advantage of Shutterfly is that features unlimited photo storage for free, which is a paid feature of most of the best places to post photos online. You can share your pictures with friends and family via personalized Web albums. Shutterfly also allows you to edit your photos and to get affordable prints, photo cards or books made from them.
  • Snapfish: Like Shutterfly, Snapfish also features totally free unlimited storage. It also features the ability to edit, share and print your pictures. While you can post photos online with Snapfish, their biggest focus is on getting your pictures printed for scrapbooks or for making personized photo gifts. The coolest thing about Snapfish is that you don't have to wait for your order to be delivered; they offer in-store pick-up at a variety of locations.
