Introduction
Zoo World is a popular online virtual reality game available and accesible through the social networking site Facebook. Other articles are available to discuss the basics of the game. This article will focus on the use of a Facebook feature and how it relates to performance in the game Zoo World. The Facebook feature discussed is "Live Feed" and is particularly useful to those who are actively playing games linked to the social networking site.
Live Feed Access
Once logged into a Facebook account, a user will be able to access their home page by clicking the work "facebook" at the top of the page. Most users will automatically arrive at this home page as the first step after logging into the program unless they have changed the default settings. The home page will have a reverse chronological (newest first) listing of status updates from a user's friends. Viewing the page, in the upper left the user will see a list of available links. A link is marked as News Feed. Clicking this link brings the user to a page that lists the newest status updates for each of their friends. This is slightly different from the home page, in that the home page lists status updates in the order of the newest posted to the oldest posted. If a given friend posts several status updates, they will all appear on the home page. In the news feed, only one message update per friend will appear in the list, giving a user the opportunity to quickly view what each of their friends has updated without scrolling through a longer list of potentially unrelated posts on the main page.
At the top of the page there are two hyperlinks: one that says "news feed" and another that says "view live feed". Game applications, such as Zoo World, post certain items to a user's wall. These postings are viewable to friends who have visited the user's wall, but do not appear as "Status updates" and therefore do not appear on the home page of Facebook. News feed will show the most recent "published" message for each of a user's friends, including messages posted to their walls. Live feed will post all of the message postings in reverse chronological order (newest listings at the top of the page). Clicking the "view live feed" hyperlink will bring up the Live feed page.
What Live Feed Can Do for Zoo World Users
Zoo World uses a lot of social messaging for quick advancement in the game. In fact, some achievements may be very difficult to meet without using the messaging. Zoo World will bring up opportunities for the users to post notices of "lost" animals for adoption by other users, post announcements when they have completed the requirements for a level, post annoucements of task completion to share rewards, and post needs. The options for the user to obtain some of these extras are on a first come, first served basis. Quick access to new messages is very helpful. Clicking through multiple links to view individual friends' walls takes considerable time. The moment that a user posts a message prompted from Zoo World, it will appear on all of the user's friends' live feed pages. Depending on the browser being used, one might have to refresh the page occasionally to get new posts to appear promptly.
If a user wants a particular item (for example a particular animal species that is only available by adoption), he or she can watch the live feed and wait for the desired animal to appear in a notice and then quickly clink on the link to adopt the animal. For Zoo World, clicking this link will bring the user into the Zoo World Application and inform them if they have successfully completed the action. The user will get a message of congratulations if they are the first to access the link in the message, or consolation if another user was quicker to respond. The more rare the item, the quicker it will be "grabbed" from the live feed.
Users can also simply check into Live Feed at random intervals and note the posts made within the last five minutes, clicking the link on any that are of interest. This is helpful to increase the number of animals in the user's zoo or gain extra items. Users can only adopt up to five animals per day from the feed. Users who are breeding animals can have Zoo World post when their new baby needs to be fed. Users who click the link to help someone who is breeding will be rewarded with "growth formula" if they are the first to respond. Users can announce their achievements and share a bonus with other users. Users can announce successful breeding and share a collectible baby animal topiary. Many of these items are not available for purchase through the Zoo World game, even with premium wildlife points, therefore live feed is an essential to Zoo World users who want to get special extra items or who want to quickly increase the animal population in their zoo without spending zoo cash.
