Five Sony PSP Games Everyone Should Own

By: Dachary Carey

These five sony PSP games are must-haves for PSP owners.

  1. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
GTA: Liberty City Stories takes you back to the Liberty City of GTA III, three years before the events in its predecessor take place. While it's a handheld game, GTA: LCS looks and feels like a traditional console GTA game, with the same weapons, variety of cars and ability to wreak havoc that you find on your home console. GTA: LCS does have some technical flaws, with a tendency to freeze when getting in or out of a car and occasionally unstable frame rates, but for the most part, it performs extremely well on the PSP. If you're looking for a version of GTA to take on the road with you, LCS fits the bill.
  2. Daxter
Prepare for another installment in the Jak & Daxter series, without Jak. Daxter is set before Jak II, in the years while Jak was imprisoned, so Daxter is the solo hero of this PSP game. Designers have managed to bring the console experience to the PSP with Daxter, delivering amazing graphics, outstanding sound and music and a game with significant replay value. Daxter raised the bar for what PSP games could achieve, and it's a stunning piece of work. If you're looking for a fun-to-play, graphically impressive handheld game, Daxter is a great choice.
  3. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Fans of the Final Fantasy franchise love this PSP installment of the series. With fantastic cutscenes, stellar voice acting and impressive in-game graphics, Crisis Core delivers the gameplay experience you'd expect from a Final Fantasy game. Beyond the amazing technical adaptation of this series for the PSP, however, is the storyline. Crisis Core is a compelling, plot-driven Action RPG with some of the most likable and complex characters in the entire franchise.
  4. Tekken: Dark Resurrection
With a long list of pros to its credit and only one minor control-related con, Tekken: Dark Resurrection is one of the best games to hit the PSP. The graphics are amazing and gameplay exceeds expectations with reasonable load times and good performance for a handheld console. Technical feats aside, this Tekken game manages to bring the arcade experience to your PSP, with new moves, more fighters, improved customization options and new backgrounds.
  5. Wipeout Pure
Discarding many of the features that disappointed fans in the later part of the Wipeout series, Wipeout Pure gets back to the basics of what made the franchise successful. Gameplay resembles that of the early Wipeout titles, with old tracks and weapons reappearing in this PSP version. Wipeout Pure features impressive speed and good vehicle handling, with increasingly challenging races as the game progresses. With some of the best graphics at the PSP's launch, Wipeout Pure is still graphically impressive and a successful return to the former racing glory of the Wipeout series.
